Issues with Chantix...

Anyone out there on Chantix? I don't know what to do. This is day 57 for me. I have been taking Chantix and got so nauseated I had to quit my Fosemax. That did not help much so I cut the medication in half. That helps some but I am always so tired and listless; I feel like just quiting the drug. I am worried if I do I will start smoking again, something I definitely do not want to do. Has anyone else had problems with Chantix?

    Hello Leanna,

I have heard many different side effects from a few that have tried it; it made them feel strange or weird. Now, 57 days is fantastic without 1 day without one is WOW!! I was one of the die hards and quit cold turkey and it has been over 16 weeks for me and my husband. If you decide to quit using Chantix (I know how much it costs and I had a prescription! lol) try the Commit lozenge if you feel you need something. It is all in your head, girl, I know. Keep on posting to the blog for good feedback; they wont let you down. I won't ever go back because I know what it took to get here. Be good, be strong and just walk away - you will be glad you did. I made it and as addicted as I was I know anyone else can too if they just try! Okay, we have all had to make some changes in the things that we do, I so miss hanging out with my smoking friends, but right now I just can't and they understand that. It's not that I am tempted, it's because I don't have to anymore and to me that is righteous. It is my choice and so it shall be yours as well.

I think it might be the Fossamax that's giving you most of your problems. I had to stop taking it. Please read about the side effects - they can be deadly.  Chantix really helped me to quit. I did stop taking it after just a few weeks because I wasn't sure if my constipation was from the Chantix or lack of nicotene. I did OK without it at that point.
    Don't give up!

I have heard numerous horror stories about the nausea that comes with using Chantix and even though my Dr. is constantly urging me to try it. I have refused; as a nurse I am not willing to have that as a side effect.

Drinking a glass of COLD ice water when I became nauseated was the only thing that stopped the nausea. 9 months into being smoke free is well worth it...Please just stay the course...it will get better!

I have been taking the Chantix for 9 weeks now. I did some major research on the drug before I started taking it and what I was reading scared me to death. I had to quit smoking or I was told by my doctors I would not see 50. I am 44 now. I got ready for the nausea with a script from my doctor. It was the depression and suicidal thoughts that worried me. Needless to say, I have not experienced any of those. I had about three days during the second week where I was more irritable than usual. I recognized that it was the Chantix and used some relaxation therapy to get myself through it.

At this point, I have been so thankful that Chantix has been available to me. I have invested too much time and work into quitting to allow myself to slip now. I will finish out the Chantix and stay a non smoker! The best piece of advice that I can offer to you as a Chantix user is get on the internet and read. Read everything you can. There is nothing worse than taking on something new to you and feeling like you're all alone.
